Rachel...the Happy Home-Maker

So, here is what my day consisted of...

I got up around 9am and took my Opa out for breakfast at Norm's. We had the breskfast specials with our Eggs over easy and our bacon well done. Yum! Then we went to look at the Toyota. It needs some work so we asked if the owner could get a quote roughly on how much it will cost to safety.

I came home around 11-ish and had a nap.

I got up and biked to Grant's to get supplies to make bread. I locked my bike and lost my key so I had to call my stepdad to come pick me up from the grocery store. Good thing I have a spare key at home.

I made the bread and went back up to Grant's with my spare key to get my bike home.

While the bread was rising, I finished weeding the garden and removing all the dead stuff. Boy what a job. And then I got it all into garbage bags. Three big industrial size garbage bags at that. My stepdad Rob brought them to Pioneer and put them in the dump bin there. He owns Pioneer.

Showered...and used all the hot water...ooops.

Did a load of laundry...with cold water...it's ok...I did the whites.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I am insured as an occassional driver on Rob's insurance too. I did all that stuff today aswell.

So here I am, eating and appreciating the fruits of my labour. Fresh Home-made bread is the best. But I still have the best to come...the massage. Im leaving for that around 8pm.

Ahhhh...life is so tough. *sigh*

I didnt do much today. I stayed in my bed until 2pm because it was abnormally cozie and I just wanted to relish in the feeling of its security. Finally, I was forced out of bed by an over-stuffed nose. I had to breath through my mouth. I have been taking hot showers in order to try and clear out the congestion because blowing my nose doesnt accomplish much.

I worked in the garden today...trimmming back all the plants in preparation for winter. There was alot of dead plants too...and I must say the garden looks much better. Half of it does anyways. I only got half done because I got stung by a wasp...amazing what pain a little critter can cause...but atleast im not allergic to it.

Tomorrow I go to check out a car. Hope this is the one!

Also, I am going for a 2 hour body massage....aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh. Ive never had a pampering experience and odd to say that I am a little nervous about it....something to do with letting someone into my personal space...but I will let you know how it goes. Im sure it will be heavenly.

I am enjoying my time off from work...although today I woke up with a really bad cold. I am congested in my nose and chest and am hacking. I have slept most of the day...although I was up at 8:30am to take my kitty to the vet. She got her vaccinations today and is going to spayed in the next couple of months. She also has a bad tooth and the vet took her tempature (poor kitty...right up the butt) and she was on the high end of normal. So she is also on antibiotics to clear up the infection. There is a possibility that she will have to have the tooth removed. Poor kitty. So kitty and I have been loving on eachother in our sickly states.

Today is my friend Luke's birthday. He is a cool guy always willing to help and serve friend's with his talents. He is very good with computer's and just a nice guy. Happy Birthday Luke...if you are reading this. Hope you had a fantastic day!

i am not one for tracking storms, but as of late i have had some interest in hurricane ivan. reason being is that my brother is is nthe domican republic on holidays. now there isnt a big chance that it will hit them but i am sure they will reap some of the repurcussion of ivan. but you could say that i am not worried as my family including me get quite excited about storms and i know my brother would really like to experience some crazy-ass weather. well it looks like he may. the storm will be close to the island on thursday...the day he, and his girlfriend, and his girlfriend's family are suppose to fly out. so we will see what thursday brings. for interests sake here is the link to the hurricane advisory site for the weather channel.

Hurricane Ivan

It looks like it will affect Haiti if in any likelihood.

at the youth center again. it is saturday nite and i am pooped. this is the first time at the youth center that i have been watching the clock. it has been such a long day. i worked at wally world from 8-4pm...but i am not on my two days off...labour day...yeah...with pay. then work four days, and off for two weeks for holidays.

so back to the youth center. i am on my old computer...i donated it...sorry to kim who is with out...there is a live band playing tonite. they are very enjoyable. asking me the name and i couldnt tell you. oh, i think they just wrapped up. the hockey game is playing in the background too...Canada vs. Russia. Last time I checked it was 3-1 for Canada.

I already have a member who signed up for my freecycle group. Some one I do not even know. I hope you all do the same and start posting your junk

Well, still no luck on a car either. If at all possible, I plan on going to Hamilton on my holidays to visit my pops and hopefully have his assistance in selecting a decent vehicle.

Lastly, I have a big gap in the front of my teeth right now. It's really bugging me...but it is the course of treatment as they are shifting all my teeth back.

ya,ya...bye.

A Tale Of Two Grains

From a story by AP:

An 8-year-old girl who suffers from a rare digestive disorder and cannot consume wheat has had her first Holy Communion declared invalid because the wafer contained none, violating Catholic doctrine.

complete story from CBS News

Evidently her wafer had rice, and I guess rice just doesn't cut it. Let's take a look at the two grains in question:

Rice Wheat
Kingdom Plantae Plantae
Division Magnoliophyta Magnoliophyta
Class Liliopsida Liliopsida
Order Poales Poales
Family Poaceae Poaceae
Genus: Oryza Triticum

Hmmm. I don't get it. It looks pretty much the same.... WAIT A MINUTE!!! Right there!!!

Genus: Oryza Triticum

The genus is different!!! Ah, I see now. Clearly, The Lord approves of Triticum, but frowns on Oryza for his transubstantiation needs. You'd think the same class or order would be enough. Surely, the same family would suffice; but no, I guess it all comes down to the genus.

Let's look at some photos, shall we?

First, here's rice:

Sort of grass-like, isn't it? Definitely a plant.

Next, here's wheat:

Ahhh.... I see. Much different. You see, the little stalks appear to be closer together, more dense if you will. Looks grass-like, too... but you know, it must be the denseness that makes it the better and proper transubstantiator.

Let's hear some more from the Catholic church on this issue:

The Diocese of Trenton has told Waldman's mother that the girl can receive a low-gluten host, drink wine at communion or abstain entirely, but that any host without gluten does not qualify as Holy Communion.

complete story from CBS News

AHA! So it's the gluten, then, that miraculously transforms into the body of Christ. Why didn't they say so right off? Of course, I only have the Revised Standard Edition of The Bible, but a quick cursory look yielded no mention of gluten. Too bad I've misplaced my King Jame's version; it must be mentioned in there.

Let's take a look at gluten:

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary

Gluten \Glu"ten\, n. [L., glue: cf. F. gluten. See Glue.]

(Chem.)

The viscid, tenacious substance which gives adhesiveness to
dough.

Well, that cleared that up. Apparently, rice flour doesn't have enough viscid, tenacious substances, and/or its dough is not adhesive enough.

I think it's interesting that according to the Catholic Church one doesn't have to partake in the wine for the communion to be official, but damn it, you have to eat some gluten!!! I'm just glad the Church has grabbed this Very Important Issue by the horns. After all, the Church has absolutely no other problems, so they can afford to spend time and energy making sure that only the proper genus of Poaceae grain is consumed in the name of Christ.
